Houten groentekisten [Wooden Vegetable Crates], 1962-2012

Jan Henderikse was among the members of the Nul-groep ('zero group'), which was founded in 1960. The Nul artists worked in a monochrome and repetitive fashion. Henderikse, because of the freedom and playfulness of his actions and the use of waste materials, was the least severe of the Nul group. The work Houten groentekisten ('Wooden vegetable crates') can be seen as a critical or ironic reference to consumer society, on the one hand, but on the other hand it also testifies to a selfless love for the simple things in the world around us.
